As I walked through a classroom today I observed a teacher who was doing a writing lesson on the topic. "When I was younger..." This did make me laugh because none of the kids in our building are older than 10. However, it got me thinking about the past 30 years of my life and I can not get it out of my head. Which to all you bloggers out there you know what that means...I must blog about it. This is my therapy!
So here goes...
When I was younger I could run to my friend's house two blocks away to see if she could play outside. Now I call my friend to see if we can plan a "play day" so we can talk, and it might happen in the next two weeks.
When I was younger I could talk on the phone to my boyfriend for hours, now we are lucky to talk to each other over dinner. (I hear that changes when the kids grow up, still waiting!)
When I was younger I could wear what I wanted, eat what I wanted, and not worry about a thing! Now...not so much! I am at the point where shopping must answer these questions does it make me look too young? does it make me look to old? does it make me look fat? is it on sale? does is it so on sale everyone has it? BLAH!!
When I was younger I thought I knew it all! NOT!!
When I was younger I could sleep until noon! I miss those days!
BUT...
When I was younger I did not know what true friends were, I do now!! Thanks for being my friends!

"I'm Two Hands Now!"
Yes, it is official we are no longer one-handed in this house. confused yet? None of us can count our age on one hand. Travis is now six! Where does time go? I remember being a new mom and people saying to cherish these moments because they do not last long. At the time I thought, are you sure each day drags on forever. : ) Now I am the person saying, "I remember those days..." Travis has become such a little man since starting school. He is very responsible and has more common sense then a lot of the 4th graders I taught. He has a huge heart and is tough as nails! Travis is the kid that wants everyone to get along so that we can all play together. The key is to play and he doesn't care if it is with girls or boys, just together. I am so proud of both my big guys! Here are some pictures of the first few days of Travis.
He was named after the strong most God center man Bill and I have ever know, Travis "Grandy" Sykes. Travis is now 90 1/2! He has beat many illnesses and stared death in the face more than once. God is not finished with him yet! I can not wait for my Travis to understand what an awesome namesake he has.
This picture is to show exactly how HUGE this kid was. This picture is taken the first night in the hospital. He is not even one day old! Notice the cheeks...my word!

Happy Birthday my little man!

Little Things in Life

Do you ever sit back and notice the little things around you? Those little things that we ignore all the time. I sat in my car today and watched two butterflies swirl around in the wind. Now normally I would have thought, "Slacker stop procrastinating and get out of the car!" Not today it was so nice to be reminded of the small blessings that are so often overlooked. My life can be so busy that I rarely stop to enjoy the small things. In college I had a professor that would make us stop and name five of "God's Little Extras" in our life. I wish I did this more...Here are my five little extras today.
1. The sound of children laughing.
2. The sound of Tyler and Travis saying they love each other.
3. Butterflies
4. Wild Flowers
5. Doves that sing to me every morning in the window of my shower.
What are your Little Extras?

It's Just Great!
As I read through my comments and the comments left on our bible study I realize why satan had his grips on me yesterday. "When two or more are gathered in MY name, I am there!" Guess what HE is here! We have succeeded in starting a bible study that reaches out at any hour, anywhere. I have a smile on my face that I can not explain other than GOD! There is something wonderful planned through this bible study, I just know it!

So you had a Bad Day...
Can you hear that song? That was my day. It started the moment the alarm went off this morning! I cannot even explain why. It was Monday, it was a pretty day, I was training today, none of which should have made me dread the day. Apparently it was obvious to Bill that I was cranky! Not Good!
Long story short, I continued my bad day, with a scowl on my face I am sure. I finally decided that I needed to get out of this! I sat down to do my bible reading for today (see new site) and it clicked. Our God is so awesome that he can speak one word and bring the world to life. Awesome is all that can describe it! Satan however, was there to try to destroy the most amazing days so far. If he can interfere in a time that had so few distractions what can he (Satan) do in a day like today. I'll tell you... he can make you in a bad mood from the moment you wake up! Well, guess what Satan??? I win... today is not yours, God is Awesome! We have sisters in Christ reading about the story of creation and sharing it with others through a blog site. These sisters are strong in their faith and they span the world! Today I woke up cranky, but I will go to bed smiling because I have friends that share my joy! The joy that God's creation is amazing!
